    A few things that trip people up

    Daylight saving time

    Many countries move their clocks forward in spring and back in autumn, but not on the same weekend. For a few weeks each year the gap between, say, London and New York is four hours instead of five. The converter follows the official rules for the date you pick, so check the date — not just the time.

    Half-hour and 45-minute offsets

    India runs on UTC+5:30 all year, Nepal on UTC+5:45 and parts of Australia on UTC+9:30. If a meeting invite looks “off by thirty minutes”, an unusual offset is usually why.

    Write times with the zone

    When you send a time to someone in another country, add the city or offset — “15:00 IST (UTC+5:30)” — or better, both local times. It removes all doubt.

    Does the converter handle daylight saving time?

    Yes. Conversions use the time-zone database built into your browser, which includes current and scheduled daylight saving rules. Always pick the actual date of your call, because offsets can change between seasons.

    What is IST and why is it UTC+5:30?

    India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 across the whole country and does not use daylight saving. The half-hour offset was chosen so that one national time fits a country that spans nearly 30 degrees of longitude.

    Is my list of cities stored anywhere?

    Only in your browser’s local storage, so it is there next time you visit on the same device. Nothing is sent to a server.

    Why do some cities not appear in the list?

    Time zones are named after a main city, such as Asia/Kolkata for all of India. Type the country or a large nearby city, or pick the zone that matches the UTC offset you need.
