Bhubaneswar, June 13: Well-known sand artist from Odisha Sudarsan Pattnaik has bagged the first prize for his sand sculpture on global warming at the USF World Double Championship at Berlin on Thursday. The second prize was won by artists from USA and third prize from the Netherlands.
Pattnaik created a 25 ft high sand sculpture on the theme of global warming. In his sculpture Pattnaik depicted a polar bear on top of a globe praying 'save my family' and beneath it were three different faces representing one each from Africa, Europe and from Asia.

Pattnaik and his student Jitendra Kishore Jagadev were the only representatives from India in the championship.
The championship had artists from 12 countries from all over the world that included India, Denmark, Germany, USA, UK, Spain, Holland, Japan, Belgium, Morocco, Italy and France.
The carving at the world championship started on June 5 and ended on Thursday. The sculptures would remain for public display for another couple of weeks in Berlin. This world championship was organised by Sandsation.
Recently Pattnaik had won the 'People's Choice Prize' at Moscow international sand sculpture championship. In Moscow, he had also created a sand art based on global warming.
He created the sand sculpture on the same theme in Germany with the aim to create awareness about global warming through various events.
Pattnaik had also won the first prize at the Berlin competition in 2005 by creating a 15 ft high sculpture titled `World Peace' in which he carved a sand sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi with three monkeys.
