Orissa HC says no to CBI probe into coach murder

KalingaTimes Correspondent
Cuttack (Orissa), May 13: Orissa High Court on Tuesday rejected a petition seeking CBI probe into the Judo coach Biranchi Das murder case.

The Court disposed off a petition seeking arrest of IAS officer Priyabrata Patnaik in the murder case along with an application seeking CBI probe into the murder observing that it should not interfere in the matter at this stage when investigation in the case was in progress.

A Division Bench of the Court headed by Chief Justice A.K. Ganguly, however, directed the police to complete the investigation soon and take appropriate action against those involved in the crime.

The public interest petition seeking arrest of the IAS officer in the case was filed by Manas Ranjan Sahu.

Sahu had subsequently filed another application with a prayer to the Court to order CBI probe into the sensational murder of the Judo cocah.

On the other hand, Bhubaneswar police were still clueless about the motive behind the murder even after a full month of investigation into the killing of the coach.

Both the accused in the case – Chagala and Raja Acharya – had surrendered before the police in Bhopal and Goa on different dates. They are presently in judicial custody.

Biranchi Das was murdered outside the Orissa Judo Association complex in Bhubaneswar on April 13 evening.

Although Raja Acharya was said to be the main accused in the case, police had not been able to recover the weapon used in the crime till date.
