The defence counsel submitted that the accused was innocent and be released on bail.
Acharya had not been named as accused in the first information report that the police had registered, Mohanty pointed out.
He further argued that the 13 witnesses who had been examined by the police so far had also not indicated about direct involvement of Acharya in the crime.
About the confessional statement of Chagala, another accused in the case who had said it was Acharya who fired at the coach, Mohanty said the statement was recorded by the police and same cannot be taken as a strong piece of evidence against his client.
Meanwhile, two police personnel of Bargarh police station were placed under suspension for reportedly failing to prevent the accused from talking to the media during his medical examination at a government hospital in the city on Sunday.
The accused had replied to a series of questions put by reporters during his medical check up.
Acharya was produced before the court on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody. He has since been lodged in the city's Jharpada jail.
