Kendrapara, Aug 29: Curfew was finally lifted in strife-torn Kendrapara urban areas since wee hours on Friday with normality restored in the district headquarters town in the aftermath volatile situation resulting out of Wednesday's bomb-throwing incident.
However, as a precautionary measure, Section 144 CrPC prohibitory order remains in force within the municipality area limits of the town, said Kendrapara Collector Sisirkanta Panda.
Situation has limped back to normalcy and there is no cause for breach of peace, Panda added.
Bomb attack on the house of a BJP councilor here on Wednesday night had triggered tense situation in the town, widely regarded as communally sensitive spot.
Apprehending possible communal disturbances, the civil and police administration here were forced to clamp curfew in the township area since Wednesday midnight hours.
Opinion on curfew imposition is divided with majority viewing that it was panic reaction on part of those at the helm. Situation did not warrant such drastic step.
On the other hand, some police officers on law and order duty justified the act.
“There was large assembly of angry mob in specific sensitive localities after the bomb-throwing incident. There was every likelihood that situation might have gone out of control with palpable feelings of commotion and tension between two communities,” they observed.
